The BCNED Research Centre offers comprehensive analytical services and measurement with large databases. Using bespoke data sets the centre offers a platform with tailored methodologies for business performance, institutional impact and outreach analysis with reference to private and public sector funding for innovation and growth.

The Cluster Mapping Portfolio of the centre offers a library of cases of geographic and value chain concentration of firms, accompanied with comparative analysis of performance results of strategic industry groups and integrated value chain systems.

Institutional impact and outreach analysis utilise advanced mapping techniques that depict concentration of research performers and collaborations, and categorisation of innovation outputs.

The analytical services at the centre are developed using comprehensive all population databases and bespoke proprietary multi-stage methodology that encompasses formal statistical methods and interpretative techniques, such as cluster analysis, two-mode and three-mode network analysis, multidimensional scaling and correspondence analysis. The methodology enables direct comparisons across regions, clusters, or nations, and networks.

Results from the impact analysis and mapping are presented at micro, mezzo, or macro level, offering a comprehensive and insightful overview and visualisation of complex data. The use of bespoke databases facilitates further cross-sectional and segmentation analysis, pattern recognition and interpretation of real-world phenomena, revealing structure, relationships and the boundaries of the impact. The multi-disciplinary projects of the centre offer cross-fertilisation of initiatives, bridging knowledge and technology areas, or other agglomeration effect that emerge from distribution and accumulation of resources in specific geographic spaces.

We develop Mapping in value chains

Mapping cross-sectoral and cross-regional value chains for emerging sectors, technologies and thematic prototypes enhance the knowledge of regional stakeholders of their own capabilities and prepares them for inter-regional collaboration.
